On the island of Skopelos, in his homonymous capital is a small but very interesting Museum of folk art. The main purpose of the Museum is the preservation and promotion of local traditions and history.
House, which houses the Museum has three floors and is designed in a traditional architectural style. Earlier this place was the building, built in 1795, but the result of a strong earthquake in 1963 it was almost completely destroyed. In 1971 began a large-scale restoration work. Thanks to the plans and drawings of the old building was able to recreate all the architectural elements characteristic of the noble house of the 18th century. In 1991 the family of Nicolaides (home owners) gave it as a gift to the municipality of Skopelos. In August 1992, the Museum opened its doors to visitors.
The collection of the Museum, perfectly illustrates the life of the local population, since the second half of the 19th century. Here you can see the furniture, ceramics and wood, various instruments, traditional costumes, embroidery, paintings, photographs, decorative items, ship models and much more. Of particular interest are well-equipped so-called "wedding room" with a baby cradle and a living room with traditional furniture and a fireplace located on the first floor. On the ground floor presents a diverse collection of agricultural tools and household utensils, while the second floor has a traditional workshop on making decorative knives.
The folk art Museum regularly hosts a variety of exhibitions and educational programs. The Museum is popular among both locals and visitors to Skopelos.
