The Cathedral of the Archangel Michael in the resort city of Sochi was erected in honor of the end of the Caucasian war in 1864 an order for the construction of the temple belongs to Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolayevich. Important role in organizing the construction of the temple was played by General D. V. Pilenko, which is the head of the black sea district.

The Cathedral was built in Dakhovsky Posad in the former summer issue of strengthening. As a construction Manager was appointed state councillor A. V. Vereshchagin, who has pledged to build it at his own expense. Initially, all construction work was financed by the largest black landowner N. N. Mamontov. Blueprints and drawings for the temple was performed by the Moscow architect A. S. Kaminsky Foundation of the temple took place in may 1874

Despite the aid of sponsors, count Sumarokov-Elston, F. F. and famous patron Mamontov S. I., the construction of the Cathedral lasted for years and ended only in October 1890, the Solemn consecration of the new temple was held on 24 September 1891

In 1937, the Cathedral was closed and transferred to the warehouse. In 1944 it was returned to believers, but without the Church property. After the war, the Church building was rebuilt several times, the result of which it lost its original appearance. In 1981, the Cathedral was declared a monument of religious architecture. In 1993-1994 in the temple underwent restoration. The author of this project was the architect of Sochi Ashkenazi F. I., who returned the Church to its original architectural appearance.

The base of the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael has a four-pointed cross. In the center is a dome with a height of 34 m. the length of the building is 25, 6 m and a width of more than 17 m. Near the Cathedral is a Sunday school and a baptistery in the name of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, built a little later.
