The administrative center of the district, which includes about 40 villages and towns, Šlapanice, founded before the year 1235, when it was first written in the Chronicles, will be interesting and as an independent city to anyone who loves history. It is in close proximity to the field of Austerlitz in 1805, the battle of the allied armies against Napoleon's troops. About Šlapanice a mountain Juran, where the descendants erected a monument in honor of that memorable battle that claimed thousands of lives. On this hill was located the command post of Napoleon. Still you can see a stone slab, on which stood the French Emperor, sending into battle his army.
The history of Šlapanice difficult: the city many times burned and looted enemy troops. At first he did not like the Tatars in 1241, then here come the rebels, then the Swedes, finally, the Prussian troops in 1742 completed this period robbery and mishaps. But were in Šlapanice and brighter days. For example, in 1531 the town received from the Emperor Ferdinand I right to be called a city, and consequently, each week to trade fairs and to independently solve the shipping issues.
The oldest city Church is the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God, which was built in the late XII century, but several times demanded drastic overhaul, therefore, has not preserved its original Romanesque appearance. Now the facade is designed in the Baroque style. The main altar belongs to cutter master Johann Andlinger. In 1887 the bell tower at the Church has increased by 36 meters.
In the old priest's house, decorated plate "1613 year and a statue of St. Florian, created in the XVIII century, is now the Museum of Brno.
