Near the Austrian border is quite large historic town of Znojmo, founded in 1055 river Die. A large settlement, turned into the capital of Moravia, was short-lived: 1145 year it was completely destroyed. However favourable the place was empty for long. In the early thirteenth century king Przemyslaw Otakar I ordered to revive the once glorious city of Znojmo.

The composition of the Palace complex includes the rotunda of St. Kateřina – only structure that has survived from the time of the přemyslid family. Part of its walls are covered with valuable paintings 1134. The ancient artist depicted the owners of the castle and some biblical scenes.
Other city attractions include the Capuchin monastery, founded in the XIII century and closed during the Church reforms of Joseph II. Now in its premises exhibits of Zoological and archaeological exhibitions.
