In 1804, naturalist and Explorer George Cayley became the first European to visit Fern Hill, now known as mount Tom. In 1823, Archibald bell, accompanied by guides of aboriginal, found the road that runs through the Blue Mountains. A year later, this way proceeded botanist Allan Cunningham, Director of the Botanical Gardens of Sydney in the years 1837-1838.

In 1830 a certain Suzanne Bowen bought a plot of land on mount Tom, which was used for dairy farming and grazing. Here were built three sawmills, engaged in the harvesting of cocada, American Laurel and eucalyptus. These trees and today dominate the wooded part of the mountain.

Since 1934, the territory which is now the Botanical garden, was in the possession of a gardener Alfred Brunet and his wife EFFIE. Here they cultivated flowers, which are then supplied to the florists in Sydney. In the early 1960s, the family of Brantov decided to donate a plot of land on mount Tom Royal Botanical Garden, but to realize this idea they succeeded only in 1972. And to the public a new Botanical garden was opened 15 years later – November 1, 1987 in celebration of the bicentennial anniversary of Australia.

Today the Botanical garden "mount Volume" is a real Paradise for nature lovers, surrounded by national parks, UNESCO world Heritage site. Here you can stroll along quiet footpaths under trees, in which is heard the chorus of more than 100 species of birds. Among the representatives of the local fauna – marsupials, lizards and colorful insects, surprising for its unusual coloring.
