In the heart of the city of Syzran is one of the richest and most beautiful churches in the Volga region Kazan Cathedral. Five-domed temple with a majestic bell tower in eclectic style was built in 1872 on the territory of the abolished Bogoroditsky monastery. The laying of the temple took place in 1866 on the site of a rundown of Kazan Church, erected in 1742. Art paintings and ornamental decoration of the temple belongs to the Moscow painters Yefim Antonov and Alex Storozhenko. The temple was built by the parishioners, merchant B. I. Kolpacino and mayor A. I. Ledneva. The only intact building during the great fire of 1906 became the Kazan Cathedral.
