In the heart of the city of Syzran is one of the richest and most beautiful churches in the Volga region Kazan Cathedral. Five-domed temple with a majestic bell tower in eclectic style was built in 1872 on the territory of the abolished Bogoroditsky monastery. The laying of the temple took place in 1866 on the site of a rundown of Kazan Church, erected in 1742. After the consecration of the two thrones in honor of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God and the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky, the new Church was named the Cathedral.

Kazan Cathedral was designed by architect K. A. ton and under the supervision of architect A. A. Tomari. Art paintings and ornamental decoration of the temple belongs to the Moscow painters Yefim Antonov and Alex Storozhenko. The temple was built by the parishioners, merchant B. I. Kolpacino and mayor A. I. Ledneva. The only intact building during the great fire of 1906 became the Kazan Cathedral. One legend States that survived the temple thanks to the actions of the guard, letting the fire spread to the Cathedral, for which he was awarded a gold medal.

It was not destroyed Kazan Cathedral and after the revolution. From 1930 to 1941. service in the Church was not conducted. After the war, in the Cathedral of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God again reached the parishioners who brought their icons and money for restoration work. In the 1960-ies in the Cathedral were arranged two altars in honor of the icon of the entry of the Holy virgin and of the Holy equal to the apostles Prince Vladimir.

In our days the main shrines of the temple are: the icon of the Kazan Mother of God, the miraculous icon of the Feodorovskaya Mother of God and icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker with a particle of his relics.
