National Park Pieniny is one of 23 national parks in Poland located in lesser Poland Voivodeship to the South, on the border with Slovakia in the heart of the Pieniny.

The idea of creating a national Park belongs to the Professor Vladislav Szafera, member of the National Commission for the protection of nature. In may 1932 was created "Pieniny national Park" in an area of 7, 36 square kilometers.

Basically, Pieniny mountains consist of limestone, making mountains are very picturesque. The most famous mountain peak in the Park is the Three crowns massif, situated at an altitude of 982 m above sea level. National Park Pieniny is located in the basin of the Dunajec river, the river occupies an important place among the factors influencing the appearance of the reserve and its ecosystem. Although the Park is small in size, there are hundreds of species of plants, including 640 species of fungi. Meadows Park, which are the result of human activity, is considered one of the richest vegetable ecosystems of Poland. Here you can see up to 40 species of flowers on every square meter!

Scientists have found that in the Park there are more than 6,500 species of animals, including badgers, boars, deer, lynx, wild cat, pine marten, bats, blackbirds, storks and owls. On the banks of the Dunajec river otters live.

For tourists and lovers of active recreation in the Park is developed 35 tourist routes, which cover the most important attractions in the Pieniny mountain peaks of the Sokolica and Three crowns, as well as medieval Kostinski castle.

River rafting on wooden boats is a very popular tourist destination.
