Turkish fountain Photo: Turkish fountain

The Turkish fountain, located in the heart of Taman village, is the only one in the edge of the condensate water source. A large monument on the Taman Peninsula was built during the reign of the Ottoman Empire and is the only landmark of this period.

According to research scientists, the age of the Turkish fountain does not exceed 300 years, with the exact date of construction of this unique monument is still unknown.

The fountain is surprisingly interesting. It was created artificially. Turkish fountain is among the scorching Sands in the shallow depression. Scientists have always wondered one question, where there is water, around just sand?! After a while it became clear that the fountain is located at the bottom of the drained lake. Previously, the pond was a place of temporary camps and settlements of the ancient mariners. Here was established the city of Hermonassa. Currently dry lake is a plain sandy lowland in the middle in a green oasis and is the Turkish fountain.

Initially there was an assumption that the water comes from artesian wells. As it turned out, the Ottomans 300 years ago paved in sand multimeter system of clay pipes, which extends over a sufficiently large distance to the water source. Scientists also noticed that the pipes somehow able to collect rain water, because after the rain Turkish wells are filled much faster. The water in the fountain there, even in summer, as the piping system is not heated above 20°C, and the wet wind from the sea brings water only in vapor form, absorbing in sand, and in the pipes of the fountain it is condensed. It is in such an interesting method, and is open source.

Turkish fountain has the look of a small house, within which to make a small notch with a faucet where you can get water. Outside the walls of the house shows the heroes of legends.
