National Park Kuhtai is located on the plain, on the Eastern coast of the island of Borneo, in the province of East Kalimantan. The Park is located about 50 km on North from the equator and North of the Mahakam river, in the pool which is more than 76 lakes. Near the national Park are the city of Bontang and Sangatta, and the administrative center of the province of East Kalimantan – Samarinda – is 120 km from the Park.

The national Park Kuhtai is about 2000 sq km, and with the 70-ies of XX century it is a conservation area. Unfortunately, the national Park suffers from illegal logging and the emergence of mining companies. In 1982-1983, the fires that destroyed large areas of the forest, and as of today are about 30% of forests. In the Park, where lots of lush tropical vegetation, very beautiful, and in these natural conditions, which are natural, home to a population of orangutans. In addition to these animals, and the Park has various species of monkeys (goalby the langur, the big nose, Gibbon müller and others), and the Malay bear, klemantaski rhinoceros, Indian sambar (from the family of deer), banteng (born bulls), clouded leopard, marble cat, tiger cat, black flying squirrel, vydrovymi civet, smooth-coated otter, crocodiles and over 300 species of birds.
