Old market square – the main city square of toruń, founded between 1252 and 1259 for years. In architectural terms toruń – not a typical medieval town. Until the merger of the Old market with a New market in town at the same time there were two main squares.
Starting from the year 1259, in the centre of the Old market began to appear different building. At the end of the thirteenth century was built the old town hall is a vivid example of the architecture of medieval Europe. In addition to administrative duties, the town Hall and was also a trading platform. Here were located the shops of shoemakers, weavers, there were sales of products and breads. The building is in the style of "brick Gothic" during its existence has undergone several stages of restructuring. In the eighteenth century Hall acquired a Baroque appearance.
