National Park of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, founded in 2001, is situated in the heart of a region known for its natural beauty, its products and handmade Souvenirs. It includes the provinces of Massa, Lucca, Reggio Emilia and Parma.
The Park is situated on a mountain ridge that divides the Italian regions of Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. Close to national parks "Cinque Terra" and "forest Casentinesi, Monte Falterona, Campigna".
Most of the territory of the Park is covered Alpine meadows with amazing beauty of the lakes, above which rise the peaks of the Alpe di Succiso, Monte Prado and Monte Kusno. By Radio visible Emilia interesting geological formation – Pietra di Bismantova that in his "divine Comedy" was mentioned by Dante. It is a narrow, semi-cylindrical plateau with steep vertical walls up to 300 meters. The Tuscan-Emilian Apennines can boast an incredible diversity of natural landscapes, from Alpine meadows and heathlands, lakes, waterfalls and rapid streams working their way among the rocks. Here on the area of 23 thousand hectares inhabited by wolves, wild sheep, deer, Golden eagles, and an abundance of rare plant species.
One of the highest peaks of the Park Monte Kusno (2121 m) – also known under other names: "Dead Man", "the Man who sleeps" or just "Giant" for the similarity of shape with lying man. Monte Prado (or Prato), located on the border of the provinces Reggio and Emilia Lucca, reaches a height of 2054 metres. And the mountain Alpe di Succiso the altitude of 2017 meters has a pyramidal shape and is dissected by several canyons. Here is the source of rivers Secchia and Enz – right tributaries of the river po, which is the longest in Italy.
