In Tver on the street Free of Novgorod, the house 11, is one of the oldest and most remarkable churches of the city – the Church of the Nativity. The erection of this temple, called "the Fishermen", occurred in 1743, on the very spot where previously there was an ancient Kletsky wooden Church, which was mentioned in 1696. 13-17 centuries in the area of location of the temple lived a lot of fishermen, due to which these territories were called "Fishermen" or "Fishing village". The Church was incredibly large and massive, and today attracts the eyes of many passers-by.

The Church of the Nativity was completely burnt in 1743, but soon the parishioners decided to immediately commence the construction of a new, brick Church, the design of which elements have been used, made of white stone. The construction of the temple was carried out according to the "octagon on square". In the design of the Church of the Nativity combines the features and elements of classical, but Baroque.

Near the Church is built in two floors, the clergy house, the first of which occurred in 1775. The necessary funds were allocated by Catherine II, because, in 1763, the house was badly damaged by fire and was almost destroyed; the fire killed 33 people who tried to save the Church property and religious shrines only remaining temple walls. In a terrible and devastating fire by chance survived the icon of the mother of God "Joy of All who sorrow", which was charred only one side, but the image did not suffer. Some time later, preserved the icon became known as the miraculous. Every year in the restored Church held the funeral prayer for the victims of the fire the congregation, outside the Church funeral services were performed. In cherished memory of the fallen and unfortunate incident that occurred in the temple, held a procession that starts from the Cathedral and continuing to the Church of the Nativity.

In 1863 the Church was a chapel, which was consecrated in honour of St. Mitrophan of Voronezh. All work is carried out on cash merchant Kobeleva. The iconostasis of the main altar, as well as all interior paintings were also made on donations, only to have the merchant Zverkov N. And.
