In Tver there are not only many temples of Orthodox religion, but also of Muslim councils. One of these temples is Tverskaya mosque – a house of prayer for Muslims.
In 1905 the local Muslim population, it was decided to build a mosque. Local Imam Sayyid Burhan Hussain carefully collected all the information concerning the number of Muslims that were 73 people. Also at work at the local Draper worked 150 Muslims, and in total, around town the need for the construction of the mosque had about three hundred Muslims.
Essential collection permit for the construction of the documents involved Alyshev F. I., which assumed full responsibility for the construction work. Once the petition for administration was filed, was immediately selected site for the future mosque, located on the opposite side from the local hospital, and it was on the Millionnaya street. After you have gathered all the necessary documents, the construction was already in full swing, and in October 1906, the mosque was completely built.
The building of the mosque is made on an exemplary project, made in 1844, which corresponds novomariinskoye style. The total length of the building amounted to 12 meters, while its total length is clearly highlighted with the help of partitioning with six Windows with horseshoe arches. The mosque seems small, because it creates the impression of an eight-pointed star-shaped window openings and the cornice is decorated with elements of traditional local architecture. On all the corners of the roof are small domes, connected by toothed comb, stretched around the perimeter. From the North minaret is provided with a cylindrical tower, which reaches a height of almost 17 meters; directly on the minaret is the tower height of 4, 5 m. Located on the North side of the volume of the roof is decorated using a pattern, made in Oriental style. Stucco is also gracefully adorns the window openings, although its appearance is subject to a complete renovation. The decor is actively used rustication is alternating between horizontal colored bands, in this case red and white, giving the whole the appearance of not only the incredible expressiveness, but the similarity with the buildings of mosques, located in Potsdam and Vladikavkaz. Intended for prayer hall has plenty of space and large gallery located on the second floor level.
Shortly after construction began, was built a stone fence with metal sections which are connected by stone pillars.
The opening ceremony of the Tver mosque took place on the 27th of October 1906, which coincided with the month of Ramadan. Was held colorful worship, which came from A. Bayazitov Petersburg Akhun and certain other persons. The ceremony was attended by the city Governor, the garrison commander and the mayor. In the process of the action was read the telegram, written on behalf of the Emperor Nicholas II (he donated a rather large amount). After were finished congratulatory speeches, followed by a gala dinner, during which many speakers took into account the need for future development of the brotherhood of Orthodox and Muslim believers who live on the territory of Tver.
In 1935, the mosque was officially closed, after which the building housed various institutions, including even a restaurant. Despite this, the Muslim community continued to exist and was ruled unofficial mullahs.
In 2006, the year celebrated 100-year anniversary of the construction of the mosque, where we hosted many dignitaries, including prominent members of the Muslim community of Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, Vologda, and many others. In 2008 started repair work in the building of the Tver mosque, and soon the building was given in proper form.
