The balšić castle tower is an interesting object for all tourists, which is not inferior to such attractions as the Palace balšić castle, the Bazaar and the Venitian.
The name of the tower comes from the name of Balsic, at one time they were the rulers of Serbia. The tower itself was built in the 12th century for use as a summer residence of this noble dynasty. For many years the building was the tallest in the city, but fame came to her for another reason.
In this tower were the last hours and minutes of life of a Rabbi named Shabtai Zvi. He believed himself to be the second Messiah, so he founded a religious Sabbatean over to the Jews, led an uprising before the Ottomans, but at the end of his life Rabbi converted to Islam. Buried Shabtai Zvi under the name Aziz Mehmed Effendi.
The area in which is located the balšić castle tower, also is a famous tourist attraction. In the medieval period it was given to the slave market. Some believe that it is just and was sold to a Spanish writer, with such a famous, iconic name, Miguel de Cervantes, the author of "don Quixote". From his biography it is known that he spent several years in Ulcinj.
To date, the balšić castle tower houses an art gallery and held various exhibitions.
