The famous House of the Oath (Siverhus) was built in the 17th century Ulm. The city's history is visible here in chronological order, that is interesting and citizens who keep touching each shard of past events, and for visitors to the city, which every year becomes more and more.
In different years of the period from 14 to 19 century, the area of WEINHOF (Wine yard) was a place for trading operations. For example, it housed the famous wine market, so, in fact, was given the name of the square. The wine market in the square was located the Royal Palace, built in 854, but after its destruction there was only one chapel. In 1612 at the court of the city authorities was presented the project of the building of the Oath, which the next year was translated into reality.
Since the current Ulm mayor every year on one of the Mondays – Schwoermontag ("oath Monday") – from the balcony of this house says the oath. The gist of it is that he promises to be fair, to make their decisions regardless of the welfare of citizens, not to give preference to the rich or the poor, and always act within the city's laws. The first oath was uttered a long time ago, in 1397, but a good tradition continues to this day.
Modern history of the House of the Oath knew several difficult periods: the building was nearly destroyed by fire in 1785. The restoration of the building was made from old photos. The second time the house received heavy damage during the bombing of 1944. Today Schwörhaus – a real decoration of the city, the highlight of his architectural style.
