Commemorative bust dedicated to K. K. Rokossovsky, is located in the heart of the city Great Luke, namely the Central Theater square, near the pillared portico of the main facade of the theatre of drama and eyes turned towards the square and the main street called Lenin Avenue.
The author of the monument became known folk artist of the BSSR and the honorary laureate of the State Prize and the employee-the USSR Academy of arts Z. Azgur And Architect.. bust Rokossovsky became G. A. Zakharov
Rokossovsky, Konstantin Konstantinovich was born in 1896 in the Pskov region in the family of a railroad worker. During the first four years Constantine was trained in Warsaw, but immediately after the death of his father, at the age of 14, he began to pursue an independent life. Initially, he began working as a laborer, after which he took on the position of journeyman stonemason. In 1912 Rokossovsky took part in the demonstration, and was arrested, but soon released minor.
In 1914 Constantine called on the military front of the First World, for participation in which he received for bravery honorable George cross, ending the war as a Junior non-commissioned officer. In the autumn of 1917 he entered the ranks of the red guards, and in 1918 he became a member of the red army. For active participation in the civil war Rokossovsky was awarded several medals of honor of the red banner. At the end of 1925 Konstantin graduated from the courses relating to the improvement of the commanders of the cavalry. From 1926 to 1928 he worked as an instructor in the Mongol army. During 1929 Rokossovsky took courses relating to the improvement of higher initial composition at the military Academy named after Frunze M.. Since 1930, he commanded a brigade, regiment and division. In the city of Pskov in 1937 Konstantin Konstantinovich was the commander of caucacus. In the same year he was arrested because of connections with Polish and Japanese intelligence services, but, in spite of the refusal, pleading guilty, served time in Norilsk prison.
In the early 1940 Rokossovsky was released and sent to the disposal of the commander of the military district in Kyiv General of the army G. K. Zhukov On the fields of the great Patriotic war of K. K. Rokossovsky proved himself a real talented commander. From August 1941 to June 1942, he was commander of the 16th army, after which he took over command of the don, Bryansk, Belarusian, Central, the First Belarusian and Second Belorussian fronts, taking an active part in the Moscow, Smolensk, Stalingrad and Kursk battles. During the conduct of East-Prussia, Belarus and East Pomeranian operations, if participation was completed the war in Berlin. For their heroic and outstanding service during the Belarusian offensive operation K. K. Rokossovsky was awarded the honorary title of Marshal of the Soviet Union.
In 1944 and 1945, Konstantin Konstantinovich became twice hero of the Soviet Union, which was awarded the highest military order in the USSR – "Victory". During the 24 June 1945 parade Rokossovsky took command of the parade. After the Great Patriotic war was over, he became Chairman of the Northern group of forces. At the end of 1949, Stalin gave the order about the direction Rokossovsky at the command of the Polish armed forces, making him Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers pnrm. Soon after that Konstantin was awarded the title of Marshal of Poland. In the USSR he returned in 1956, taking the honorary position of Deputy Minister of defense of the Soviet Union. In 1962 K. K. Rokossovsky was one of the inspectors-General of defence. After his death was buried near the Kremlin wall on red square.
A commemorative bust of twice Hero of the Soviet Union and Marshal of the USSR was installed in the city in which he passed most of his life – Great Luke, according to the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR established from July 1, 1945.
