The Cathedral of Saint Nicholas in the third district of Vienna — Orthodox Church, which today is the Cathedral of the Vienna diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. Vladimir tishuk - rector of the Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas.

In the Cathedral are two floors: the upper temple, consecrated in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, and the lower, consecrated in the name of Emperor Alexander III, who was the patron of the Cathedral. Near the temple there are areas of the diocese.

The temple was built at the Russian Imperial Embassy on the draft Gregory Kotov in the years 1893-1899. Construction involved the Italian architect Luigi Giacomelli. Part of the costs are assumed by the Emperor Alexander III, donations which amounted to 400,000 rubles. The dedication of the temple occurred at the beginning of April 1899 by Archbishop Jerome.

Due to the termination of relations between Austria and Russia after the First world war the Cathedral was closed. Later, the Church was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan of Moscow. During the Second world war, the Cathedral was transferred to the use of the Third Reich, and in 1945 he returned to the Moscow Patriarchate.

In 2003, the Cathedral was closed for restoration, which lasted about 5 years. In 2008 it was planned to consecrate the Cathedral was renovated, but instead of celebrations was held a memorial service to Patriarch Alexei.
