About 10 km from the centre of Vigo is a beautiful city zoo. This amazing wildlife area is located on the mountain of Madera and occupies an area of slightly more than 55, 5 thousand square meters. The zoo was founded by mayor Rafael Portaneo and built by his successor in office Antonio fernández Areal, Ramilo. The official opening of the zoo Vigo was held on 18 July 1971, and today it is the only zoo in the province of Galicia.
