The house-Museum venclovas was opened in the apartment of the writer Antanas Venclova, where he lived from 1945 to 1971. Antanas Venclova (1906-1971) was a Lithuanian writer and public figure, and people's writer of the Lithuanian SSR. This house, located in the street architect design D. 34, where it was visited by many of the educated people of Lithuania, grew up and his son Tomas Venclova. The son of a Lithuanian poet Antanas was also a poet, he has also been a translator, literary critic, essayist.
The formation of the Fund of the Museum was laid in 1973 after Vilnius was founded, the writers Museum. The greatest number of exhibits were donated by the wife of Antanas Eliza Winclone with which the Museum is cooperating now.
In 1990, the memorial Museum of A. Venclova was independent on the order of Vilnius city Department of culture. By order of the Minister of culture of all items and exhibits A. Venclova were seized from the Vilnius Museum of writers. By 1991, the memorial Museum of A. Venclova was transformed into a memorial room Venclova, who was in Vilnius the culture House, closed in 1996 – since then, the Museum has found its place in the Vilnius Centre for ethnic activities.
In 2004 the Museum received its name: "the House-Museum of Venclova family". In June 2005, the Council of self-Government of Vilnius decided to separate the house-Museum from the Vilnius Centre for ethnic activities and along with some memorial apartments other famous people became one in the form of Vilnius memorial museums Directorate.
At the moment the collection of the Museum house has about 8 thousand exhibits. Our collection includes: the stock of Tomas Venclova, the stock of Anatase Venclova and the family Foundation of Rackauskas, the accumulation of the collection of which began recently.
Since 1996 works the exposition of the Museum, which features authentic equipped working room Antanas Venclova. In him is all the furniture of the writer, and also a large part of personal belongings and objects of art that existed during the life of the writer. Exposition "a study by A. Venclova" reflects the everyday life of the Lithuanian intelligentsia 40-50-ies of the 20th century in the city of Vilnius.
Adult life writer, poet and public figure took place in the period of Soviet occupation, which is characterized by the dramatic and multiple contradictions. In the Soviet Lithuanian Government, he was Minister of education and occupied a prominent position of Chairman of the Union of writers and other not less important positions.
In 1940, he allocated money for the reconstruction of Trakai castle, and then took part in organizing the founding of the Museum of everyday Life, took care of bringing in the appropriate course Museum in Neurones, where is the homeland of the writer. Today, the Museum is committed to attracting the younger generation. The Museum has many books of Tomas Venclova, gather previously unknown archival materials. The managers of the Museum aim to find more information about the relatives Venclova, for example, M. Circene, M. Račkauskas, as well as literary and political activity of T. Venclova. The Museum cooperates with the Institute of Lithuanian literature and secondary and higher education institutions of Lithuania.
