In a picturesque part of the North-Western part of the Volgograd region is located the ancient town of Uryupinsk, founded in the 14th-15th centuries as a frontier fortress of the Ryazan Principality. In our days the character of a small town is considered to be Russia's only monument to the goat, which opened in September 2000 on the main street of Uryupinsk - Lenin street. The monument was made of granite blocks, weighing twenty tons sculptor Fetisov.
Rome has always been famous for beautiful knitted scarves and shawls from goat down, which has healing properties. Becoming at one time the center of pwholesale and goat Volgograd region, Uryupinsk has firmly cemented its status as a commercial city. Today, the product of long and thin fuzz are considered to be rather exotic and are used only for medicinal purposes, but for many uryupina is a family business and only source of income.
The modest monument to an animal is a kind of gratitude to the residents of Uryupinsk his nurse. Recently on the main square of the city's annual holiday - the Day of the goat, where are contests with prizes and fair of products of local textile factories, which are inscribed with the slogans: "Moscow-Paris-Uryupinsk", "Throw" I shall go to Rome, and others, which enjoys great popularity among tourists. Also in town was a sculptural composition "Needlewoman", memorializing in bronze Uryupinsk masters of pwholesale.
