In a picturesque part of the Volgograd region is the historic Shukshin cliff on one of the chalk cliffs of the mountains, stretching for tens of kilometers along the don. The cliff was named in memory of the actor, the Director and writer Vasily Makarovich Shukshin.
In 1970-ies near the village of Cribwork, one of the mighty mountains, steeply into the river, during the filming of the famous film "They fought for their country" - based on the novel by Mikhail Sholokhov. The battle for the don crossing was filmed exactly where is the documentary novel. Trenches left after 1942, served as a stage and in the crowd filmed the entire population of Cribwork of the village and the surrounding hamlets. One of the main roles of the legendary film starred popular actor Vasily Shukshin (soldier girls) who loved to sit on the cliff. In 1974, when the film was coming to an end, Shukshin died. A few years later through the efforts of a former member of the crew was a memorial obelisk carved with the actor's name on a white stone.
In our days on the site of battles during the great Patriotic and the death of the popular actor is a monument to soldiers who fought on the beachhead of Cribwork village, a mass grave, and on top of the rock erected Vasilevsky chapel with a gilded dome. In memory of the talented actor was named street of the village, a bust, a library was opened to them. V. M. Shukshin, which houses given them a book of short stories "Countrymen" autographed.
Every year Shukshin Utes held the memory of Days with the participation of famous actors, Directors, and admirers of V. M. Shukshin.
