In the Central square of the city of Uryupinsk, Volgograd region is located two buildings art Museum, founded in 1968. Both buildings of the Museum - storey mansions of the nineteenth century, are monuments of architecture. One of the historic mansions on the former Market-place belonged to merchant Smelova, which is offered for rent retail space and rooms of the building are frequent and fair traders.
The main exposition of the Museum devoted to the history of the Khopyor region from ancient times to modern times with the most valuable artifacts found during the excavations. In the hall of Ancient Preopera" stands with the history of the evolution of the earth and the oldest remains of flora and fauna. The most interesting exhibit is the layout of the mound in full size with a demonstration of the burial of six different ancient cultures: the yamnaya, catacomb, felling; Sarmatian, the nomad and the Polovtsian solutioninc. The most valuable exhibit in the hall is the "Stone woman" in the late nomads. Also in the Museum is the hall of nature, where you can see over thirty species of animals and birds of the Khopyor region.
In 2001, the second building was opened an Art gallery, which presents the early works and personal belongings of I. I. Mashkov, I. N. Tura, A. M. Egidio, as well as works of local and Metropolitan artists. In the hall of crafts on display decorative arts all over Russia, Gzhel, Palekh, Khokhloma, Dymkovo toys, and more.
In 2004 the Museum was opened to the ethnographic Department of the Museum of goats", where the visitors learn about local crafts: the goat and knitting down products. The Museum hosts workshops, where you can own to tie their downy scarf. Also at the Art gallery open Studio art and applied art "castles in the Air".
