On the West side of the city of Serafimovich, Volgograd region, stands on the river don, Ust-Medveditsky Spaso-Preobrazhensky monastery, founded in 1652 the don Cossacks for old warriors.
In the seventeenth century the monastery was under the patronage of the Military district on the right Bank of the don, opposite the Ust-Medveditsky of the village, surrounded on both sides by mountainous shore. In the mid-eighteenth century on the territory of the monastery appeared landslides as a result of spill over of the dipper and the don and in 1752 the convent slipped into a swollen Dong. At the new place (just above the former) was built again the temple in honor of the Transfiguration (in 1754) and the monks ' cells. In 1885, a female Holy Transfiguration monastery erected a temple in the name of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God according to the project of the St. Petersburg academician of arts I. Gornostaeva.
After the revolutionary "feats" and intense fighting during the war the territory of the monastery is almost in ruins. In 1991 destroyed the monastery was returned to the diocese of Volgograd.
In our days in the monastery are rebuilt on the site of the destroyed in the 1930-ies 33-headed temple (2009) of Transfiguration and restored the Cathedral of the Kazan Mother of God (1875) in the Russian-Byzantine style. The symbolic presence of the bell tower of the monastery, in the arch of the destroyed temple. Special attention of tourists is the monastery of the cave "through the Cross of the Savior" and "Passionate by the Mother of God", whose total length is more than 160 meters. The main Shrine of the monastery is a stone slab, found in the cave, which preserved imprints of the hands and feet of the abbess Arsenii.
Ust-Medveditsky Spaso-Preobrazhensky monastery is one of the revered Orthodox places of the Volgograd region.
