Town hall building, built in the late Gothic style, is located on the Market square of Wroclaw. The town hall is one of the best preserved historical monuments in Poland, the most important architectural monument of the city.
The town Hall was built in several stages during the 250 years from the late 13th century until the 16th century. Currently in the town Hall is the city hall, the city Museum of wrocław, as well as the oldest in the city restaurant, located in the basement. In 1299-1301, was built the main part of the building, the main purpose of which in those days was trading. In 1328-1333, the building was expanded to include upper floor. This expansion continued throughout the 14th century with the accession of additional rooms in the first place premises for the court. The town hall has gradually become a key destination for commercial and administrative functions of the city.
In the 15th and 16th century the city was a thriving town, which is reflected in the decoration of the town Hall. In 1580 appeared ornate East facade with its astronomical clock. The South facade is decorated with sculptures depicting scenes of urban life. The rapid development of the city led to the need to accommodate additional services in the town Hall, the internal distribution of space is constantly changing.
In the 19th century there were two major changes. First of all, the court moved to a separate building, and a Central place in the town Hall was occupied by the city Council. The changes also affected the appearance of the building facades were covered with loach, which gave the town Hall's Gothic features.
During the Second world war the town Hall was badly damaged, until 1953 restoration work was carried out under the guidance of Markina Bukowski. In addition to the mayor's office in city Hall is a Museum and a beer garden, opened in 1275.
