Museum Chilingarov Gordon dedicated to the glorious history of one of the most famous regiments of the British – shelf Chilingarov (highlanders) Gordon. The regiment received its name from the clan Gordon and originally entered into it the inhabitants of Aberdeen and highland – Eastern, mountainous part of Scotland.
The regiment was formed in 1794 by the Duke of Gordon. It was a regiment of light infantry, first 100, then he was assigned to the 92nd room. For it was specially developed a new pattern of tartan (plaid) with a bright yellow stripe. The name "Chilandari Gordon was officially assigned to the regiment in 1881.
On 24 June 1794, the regiment made its first parade in Aberdeen. Regiment Gordon was formed during the war with France, and took the first battle of Egmont-op-Zee in Holland. The regiment took part in the Egyptian campaign of 1801, in the war with Spain and played a prominent role in the final defeat of Napoleon at the battle of Waterloo in 1815. In the XIX century Chilandari Gordon served in many colonies of the British Empire in Africa, India and Afghanistan. In 1880, the regiment returned to Aberdeen. In the twentieth century Chilandari Gordon distinguished himself on the battlefields of the First and Second World war.
The Museum has the shape of a regiment of different periods, weapons, and lots of archival documents and diaries. In addition, there are more than 4,000 medals and 12 Victoria Crosses - the highest military award of the United Kingdom.
The Museum is located in the house formerly owned by the famous Scottish artist George Reid. Prior to the merger and reorganization of the regiment its Colonel in chief was Prince of Wales. Today, Prince Charles is a Trustee of the Museum.
