Laertes is a picturesque village located about twenty kilometers from Alanya and one hundred twenty kilometers from the Antalya airport. This historic city, which, according to legend, was founded by Claudius, located at the foot of one of the highest peaks in the surrounding mountains of Jebel Ires at an altitude of 900 meters and is surrounded by an abyss from the West, East and South.
The name of this city means "Large ruins" or "Big Church". The ruins, known as "the Ruins of an ancient Larty", was once a Church, baths, wells, small theatre, the stadium, the pillared streets, temples, baths, cisterns and various residential and sacral buildings. On the South side of the stadium are the remains of the Church with apse and nave preserved in the interior traces of light blue and red coloured frescoes. Also here you can find a huge number of inscriptions and the reliefs which depicted the head of an ox and the claws of an eagle. All these remains of ancient civilizations bear deep into history. If you believe the rest of the inscriptions, the state, to be located in the area experienced a period of dawn somewhere between the first and third centuries. Among the temples built here most of the time they have reached those who belonged to Caesar, Zeus and Apollo.
The ruins of Laertes are a numerous cluster of monuments of Byzantine and Roman periods that have attracted the attention of a huge number of tourists interested in history and wanting to touch the ancient world. The road that leads to this town, passes through banana orchards, which gives the town a special attraction. Once here, many are surprised at how harmoniously here twisted modern buildings and ancient ruins.
