Loretskih Basilica, also known as the Santa Casa is the Holy House, is one of the main centers of pilgrimage in the Christian world, located in the vicinity of Ancona.

There is a legend that in the 4th century by the Empress Helena during your walking to Holy places found the right house, in which grew the virgin Mary, and in which there was a miracle of the Annunciation. Elena had built over the house of the Church, but in the 13th century, during the next Crusade, the temple was destroyed and the house of virgin Mary was in danger. Mysterious ways – according to the legend, with the help of the angels – "the Holy house" was moved to Dalmatia in the vicinity of Rijeka. They say that the lady explained to the local Bishop the origin of this building. Historians believe that he moved to Rijeka by order of the despot Nicephorus I.

No less mysterious and the fate of the Holy House – in the 13th century it miraculously appeared in the town of Loreto near Ancona, where he built a Basilica. Almost immediately after that tiny building with a length of only 8, 5 meters and a width of 3. 8 m has become one of the main shrines of Christian Europe. It is known that it was visited Rene Descartes and Pope Benedict XIV, and an exact copy of the Holy House were built in Prague and Warsaw. The building has a doorway on the North side and a window on the West, and in the niche is stored inside the icon of the virgin Mary with Child, made of Lebanon cedar, and richly adorned with precious stones.

The current building Loretskih Basilica in Gothic style was built after in 1507, the year the Pope confirmed the authenticity of the Holy House by using a particular bull. On the project of the temple worked Giuliano da Maiano, Giuliano da Sangallo and Danto Bramante, and the Baroque bell tower – it's the work of Vanvitelli. The interior of the Basilica is decorated with priceless frescoes by Melozzo and Signorelli and mosaics Domenichino and Guido Reni.

Before the entrance to the Church stands a huge statue of Pope Sixtus V, and above the main doorway stands the bronze statue of the virgin Mary with the Infant. The doors themselves were made in the late 16th century, Girolamo Lombardo, his sons and disciples, among whom was Tiburcio, Vercelli is the author of the font of the Basilica.
