The shank is a town and district of Ankara province, located on the Central Anatolian plateau of Turkey, at the height of 891 meters, at the confluence of the Shank and Ankara (the river Sakarya).

This area is a flat plain 38 kilometres North of the city, towards the airport of Ankara. According to the 2000 census, population of the district is 81747, of which 76716 man lives in the town of Cubuk. The district covers an area of 1,362 square kilometers (526 square miles) and an average elevation of 1,100 m (3,609 ft). The area was inhabited by the Seljuk Turks in the 14th century.

3 November 1936 was held the opening ceremony of the reservoir Shank in Ankara. Today, lying in the reservoir area the fields are irrigated by its waters and is famous for its pickles and cherries.

In spring and autumn is the place to get a strategic place for recreation of many flocks of migratory birds.
