Urban (provincial) Museum of Avila, which was opened in 1911, is located on the Plaza de Malville and has two important monumental buildings of the city – the Church of San Tomé El Viejo and Casa Los dinnes.
The Casa Los dinnes is extraordinarily beautiful and unique Palace, built in Renaissance style in the 16th century. Here are placed the main Museum exhibition detailing the history of Avila. The exhibits on the first floor of the building, showing the development of life and culture of the city in different historical periods. Here recreated fragments of urban and rural life of the province. Halls of the second floor dedicated to fine art, the majority of collections presented here belongs to the 19th century. In one of the halls of the second floor exhibits the magnificent Flemish triptych relating to the early 16th century.
The building of the ancient Church of San Tomé is one of the most striking examples of Romanesque architecture in Avila. Its Western and southern facades are richly decorated with sculptural elements. In the building of the Church of San Tome exhibited collection of artifacts found during excavations in Avila and in the surrounding areas. There are exhibits ranging from the prehistoric period, and also belongs to the period of the Visigoths, Muslim rule, the rule of the Christian kings until the 19th century. Here you can see the tombstones and fragments of mosaic rare Ancient Rome, inscriptions, architectural elements, weapons and household items belonging to the Middle ages and more.
