Museum of carpet and folk applied art in the Azerbaijani capital Baku is located in the heart of the city near the Seaside Boulevard.
The Museum exposition is dedicated to one of the most ancient and widespread types of Azerbaijani decorative applied art of weaving.
The carpet Museum was founded on 1 June 1967, became the founder of Latif Kerimov. In 1972, opened the first Museum exhibition to visitors. Then the institution was functioning in the building of the Juma mosque in the old fortress part of the city - Icheri Sheher. In 1992, the Museum moved to the building of the Museum centre, where previously there was the Lenin Museum. In may 2008 in Baku was laid the first stone of the new Museum building. In the ceremony participated the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Director of UNESCO K. Matsuura. The Museum building has the shape of a folded carpet. The author of this project was the architect Frans Jans and Marie Walter.
Today the Museum houses more than 10 thousand valuable works of art and historical exhibits.
