Historical Museum of Balchik was opened in 1937, the Museum building is located next to the municipal ethnographic Museum. In the heart of the exhibition was based on the artifacts found Karel SEEPROM, an experienced archaeologist, in 1907.
The life of the Museum can be divided into two stages: before 1940, while Balchik was under Romanian occupation, and after, when most of the exhibits were evacuated to Romania. Today the Museum houses the finds collected since 1940.
In the historical Museum can be considered a large part of the archaeological discoveries that scientists have discovered in the course of works on the territory of this district. Thanks to the exhibits, it can be argued that the creation and development of the city began in antiquity and continued into the middle Ages.
In addition, the Museum houses finds from the temple of Cybele (3rd Millennium BC), who was buried under the ground due to an earthquake in the sixth century. The ruins of the temple was discovered only in 2007. The temple is well preserved marble statues, which are also exhibited in the Museum. Among the fragments of the Shrine were deciphered 27 inscriptions and restored image, dedicated to the goddess Cybele. Today to visit this object can all attend, however, into a full-fledged Museum the remains of the temple had not moved – he remained in a deep pit.
The exposition dedicated to modern history, is documents and photographs relating to the period of Romanian occupation of Balchik in southern Dobruja.
