Montjuic is located on the Mediterranean coast, in the southern part of the city of Barcelona and is situated at altitude of 200m above sea level. The name montjuïc is translated as "Jewish mountain", perhaps because one of its slopes is an old Jewish cemetery.
Montjuic hill is not only a beautiful place, which offers a beautiful panorama of Barcelona, is also a significant historical and cultural point of the city, where there are many interesting sights and places that are worth visiting.
First of all, I would like to mention the fortress of Montjuic, situated on the top of the hill. Once there was watchtower. In 1652 during the advance of the Spanish troops in Barcelona around the tower in just a few weeks built a defensive fortress. Today, the walls of the fortress is a Military Museum, where collections of arms, armor and military uniforms.
The descent from the castle down through the territory of green parks and gardens. These gardens are very picturesque, they reveal the richness of the Mediterranean flora, especially striking exotic collection of cacti. Walking down the alleys of the parks, you can get to the Joan Miro Foundation. This two-story Museum, where the works of the great painter, sculptor and ceramicist Joan miró.
On the slopes of the montjuïc hill is the magnificent national Palace, the building which hosts the Museum of art, and here are the Ethnographic Museum and the Museum of archaeology. There is also a Museum under the open sky - "Spanish village", showing an example of a typical rural life in Spain. Below National Palace is the famous color musical Magic fountain, built for the opening of the International exhibition in 1929.
