The temple of the Great Bell (Big Bell Temple) is located in Beijing, in the district of Haidian. The temple itself was built during the reign of Emperor of the Qing dynasty, in 1733. After that it was the place where emperors prayed for the welfare of the people or the rain.

The bell is on the Big Bell Tower. It was cast in 1403, the first year of the reign of Emperor Yongle (Ming dynasty – 1368 year). Bell was one of three projects that were created at the behest of the Emperor. Two other projects – the Temple of Heaven and Forbidden City.

Bell height of about 7 meters, weighs almost 50 tons. On the entire surface of the bell, inside and out, embossed sutras of the Buddhists. Thanks to the masters of art bell, the Great bell sounds very gently, if you call on him slowly, and very loudly and deeply, if calling sharply. The bell sounds audible at a distance of 15 kilometres, and for all their unusual properties, he was named the King of Ancient Bells.
