Regional Museum in Birobidzhan is one of the cultural attractions of the city. The Museum introduces visitors to the amazing history of the Jewish autonomy, which is several years ahead of the creation of the state of Israel. The Museum is located on Lenin street near the synagogue.
In June 1941, the Executive Committee of the regional Council in Birobidzhan decided to organize a local history group, whose main task was the collection of interesting exhibits for future regional Museum. Exactly three years later the city hosted the Grand opening of the Museum. Its first Director was appointed G. L. Greenber. He made an enormous contribution to the development and establishment of this Museum. The Museum is housed in the building of the regional library named after Sholom Aleichem.
Museum expositions and exhibitions reflect the development, growth and achievements over seventeen years of existence of the city of Birobidzhan, the Jewish Autonomous region, its culture and economy. In addition, the Museum staff has worked closely with many research libraries and archaeologists.
Currently e local lore the Museum exposition is divided into five sections: "the Life of the Cossacks in the Amur region, where the reconstructed fragment of the present Cossack hut, which emphasizes wealthy character Cossack life of the people; "the Civil war on the territory of the Jewish Autonomous region" - the section is represented by a complex of historical materials about "red" and "white", panorama Volochaevskaya; "History of education EAO" that reflects the origins of Russian Jewry, and the Central theme is the history of education EAO on all the successes and losses; "EAO during the great Patriotic war" - the section presents documentary photo materials and three-dimensional exhibits about the region's participation in the war; "EAO in 1945-2012,"; "Nature EAO" geography, paleontology, fauna and flora of the area, mineral resources EAO.
In total the Museum has more than 29 thousand units of storage. A special place in the Museum is an album of 200 pictures showing the history and life of the Jewish people in the Jewish Autonomous region.
