Monument to Peter I in the village Somyno Boksitogorsk district was opened on 12 July 2012. This is the first statue of the great Emperor, set in a rural location. The choice of location for the monument is not accidental. Peter I visited these places. After the founding of the new capital on the Neva, Peter understood the importance and necessity of economic ties between the two capitals. He learned that from St. Petersburg to three hundred miles is lake Seminskoe from it in different directions results in two rivers: Sopinka, through the settlement of Chagoda chiodos Chiodos, Mologa, which flows into the Volga, and Valenca, a tributary of the Neva river through the Syas river and Ladoga. At this point passes the watershed of two river systems.

Peter I decided to see the lake and came to these places. He looked around and walked on foot all the neighborhood before deciding to build here Tikhvin water system. It happened in 1712, the genius of the project were implemented only after 100 years. In memory of the merits of king's Church in the village Somyno is named in honor of the apostles Peter and Paul.

The Tikhvin water system for St. Petersburg was a window into Russia, and the village Somyno * * * temple became a kind of link that connected the two capitals of Russia. The idea of the monument to Peter belongs to the priest of the Church father Gennady Belogolova. To turn this idea into reality was not easy. Help the rector appealed to the charity Fund "Alley of Russian Glory" engaged in the installation of monuments to the great Russian people. The Chairman of the Fund, Mikhail Serdyukov, was found to give the parish the monument to the Emperor.

To remove the monument helped members of the local Association of veterans of Afghanistan and hotspots of Russia "Registan". With the installation and purchase of the pedestal helped Vladimir E. Zagarskikh. The pedestal was delivered ten days before the opening of the monument. The weight of the pedestal with the bust is about two tons. At the unveiling of the gathered locals, pilgrims from the cities of Pikalevo and St. Petersburg, residents of nearby villages, cities and villages, heads of administrations of the Boksitogorsk district and other rural settlements. The solemn right to remove the cover with the emblem of the state with the opening of the monument was given to the assistant tominskogo temple Zagarskikh V. E., the representatives of the administration of the Boksitogorsk district and Pikalevo, Zaborowska, Efimov, Pastorekova rural settlements, the Director of the Efimov CDC, V. S. Ezhov, members of the clergy. At the opening of the monument were raised two flags and sounded two hymn – Imperial and modern.

The monument is a reminder of the descendants of the great things in this region of the first Russian Emperor. The monument to the Tsar-worker opened as in the memory of his deeds, and in the hope that the Russian people will be more like the rulers, who do not spare their lives for the country.
