Monument to Peter I in the village Somyno Boksitogorsk district was opened on 12 July 2012. This is the first statue of the great Emperor, set in a rural location. The choice of location for the monument is not accidental. Peter I visited these places. After the founding of the new capital on the Neva, Peter understood the importance and necessity of economic ties between the two capitals. He learned that from St. Petersburg to three hundred miles is lake Seminskoe from it in different directions results in two rivers: Sopinka, through the settlement of Chagoda chiodos Chiodos, Mologa, which flows into the Volga, and Valenca, a tributary of the Neva river through the Syas river and Ladoga. Peter I decided to see the lake and came to these places. He looked around and walked on foot all the neighborhood before deciding to build here Tikhvin water system. The monument is a reminder of the descendants of the great things in this region of the first Russian Emperor. The monument to the Tsar-worker opened as in the memory of his deeds, and in the hope that the Russian people will be more like the rulers, who do not spare their lives for the country.
