On the banks of a small river Msta, in the South-Eastern side from Holy spirit monastery stood a large, built of wood steepled Church, consecrated in honor of the Holy icon of the mother of God "Tenderness". The construction of the temple was carried out in the Holy place, where in 1452, were buried the relics of St. James – Borovichi Wonderworker. Unfortunately, in 1806 the Church was completely destroyed, but in its place was built a temporary wooden chapel.
The inhabitants of the city in 1803 he asked the blessing of St. Petersburg and Novgorod Metropolitan Seraphim of the construction at the location of the chapel of majestic stone Cathedral. But the blessings workers, Borovichi's workers have not received for the reason that the location was inconvenient for the construction of large temple. In 1871 the place of the temporary chapel was built of the cross-shaped stone chapel.
The consecration of the chapel took place in 1881 in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Tenderness". Painting of the Church was made not only from domestic but also from the outside. The temple had a high majestic light drum and five chapters, ending with crosses. The building was completely surrounded by a metal fence, is quite unconventional, but beautiful form. Stone-built Church, which was erected at the place of wood in the 19th century, due to the Russian veneration and respect of St. Seraphim of Sarov, was consecrated in honor of the icon "Tenderness" Seraphim-Diveyevo Notre Dame, as evidenced by the Cathedral paintings on the walls. Since that time, has preserved some of the pictures, which clearly presents the image of the icon of St. Seraphim Diveevo of the virgin in the outer walls of the temple from the North.
Inside the temple there was a small iconostasis, equipped with the Royal doors. On the opposite side of it was smaczny table, and the left side of the Iveron icon of the mother of God; on the right is located the icon of St. Panteleimon, which always stood singing. It is known that in 1937 the Church was closed and its building was used for the needs of the shoemaker's shop. During the great Patriotic war the building of the Church was carried on manufacturing and creating Molotov cocktails. Over an extended period of time the building was trociny warehouse store. In recent years the temple site for the most part destroyed temple was used as a large storage of fuel and lubricants at the factory.
In 1993, the Church building was again passed into the hands of the Orthodox community, after which restoration work began by architect Vladimir Ovsyannikov divine services were resumed in 1995.
Today the temple is consecrated in honor of the Novgorod icon "Tenderness", which previously was in the Trinity Church. In the summer of July 8, 1997 happened to her glorification – some unseen force, the icon was raised in the air, and from the eyes of the Mother of God began to bleed tears. The Novgorod Archbishop Alexy took the icon in his hands and placed it in Kyoto. Since then every year on 21 July, the feast day dedicated to the icon of the mother of God "Tenderness".
Inside the temple, on the right side of the altar there is an image of the blessed virgin and the Saviour, and the left side is St. Nicholas. In other niches exposed image of the apostles Peter and Paul, of St. Prince Alexander Nevsky, Saint Pantaleon the healer, as well as other images of the majestic temple.
Over time the temple was constantly replenished icons. Near the throne was hagiographical icon of St. James, next to which was a picture of St. Nicholas. Of particular interest is the sacred icon of St. James, where he was depicted on a small cloud above the city, as a custodian and protector of the city of Borovichi and all its inhabitants.
In the basement of the Church is a Holy spring, which appeared at the burial place of St. James. Healing water helps people to get rid of various diseases. According to the results of extensive renovation works in the Church basement, the well was transformed in 1997, and since then, on the third day of Passover the residents of the city gather around a Holy spring in commemoration of St. Jacob.
