The Church of são Bento is located outside the city walls and is one of the best architectural monuments of Braganca. The Church is situated in the lower part of the city and was formerly part of a Benedictine monastery, founded in the XII century. But over time, the monastery was abandoned, it began to take it apart to use the materials in other buildings.

Above the entrance door to the temple in a niche with a stone statue of Saint Benedict, in whose honor was named the Church. Saint Benedict Nursiiski is the founder of the Catholic religious orders, which later became known as the Benedictine order. As the niche is decorated with the Royal coat of arms. Inside the Church the nave, the ceiling painted in Renaissance style. From the outside the Church looks rather plain, but the interior of the Church is rich enough: icons framed in carved gilt frames, the main altar of the Church, covered with gilding and decorated with angels. Just inside the Church, special attention is attracted to a very beautiful altarpiece regiment of the XVIII century, made of wood with gilding. But above all, the Church is known for the fact that the ceiling in the chancel is decorated in the Moorish style, and the painting of the nave are made in the technique of trompe l'oeil (techniques in art to create visual illusions).
