Monastery of the Holy Martyr Athanasius of Brest was founded on 3 February 1996 by the decision of the decision of the Synod of the Belarusian Exarchate in place of the death of St. Athanasius in 1648. Earlier this place was only a chapel of Athanasius of Brest.

Athanasius of Brest is one of the most revered Orthodox saints in Belarus. He lived in the time of the Union of Brest and was an advocate of purity of the Orthodox faith. March 10, 1643, the monk Athanasius went to the Seimas and, denouncing the Union, demanded the revival of Orthodox monasteries. He cursed the Union and threatened the king with God's wrath. The place of execution indicated by the Orthodox monks a boy who saw everything from afar. Under cover of night incorrupt relics of the Saint were extracted from the pit and buried with honor on 8 may 1649 in the monastery of St. Simeon in Brest.

8, 1815 in the Simeon monastery there was a fire in which copper the relics of melted. There were only a few particles of the relics. In 1893 relics were transferred to the chapel of Athanasius of Brest in Borisoglebsk monastery in Grodno. In Soviet times, the Holy relics were kept in by the Communist anti-religious Museum in the Donskoy monastery.

The relics of St. Athanasius of Brest is famous for many miraculous healings.

In our days, when the Athanasian monastery formed the brotherhood of "Ascetic" and the Sisterhood that helps cancer patients, poor families and disadvantaged orphans.
