The Museum of the city of Brest was originally opened as a branch of the regional Museum. He started to work recently, on 25 July 1998. Since 2007, the Museum gained independence. In 2008, the Museum building was renovated and reconstructed.

The Museum is located in four halls. It tells the story of the ancient East Slavic city Berestov, located on the island, which is now the Brest fortress, the birth of Brest-Litovsk, moved to the territory of Kobrin district during the construction of the Brest fortress, the city's history at a time when he was in Poland and was called Brest-on-bug, heavy military trials that have befallen the city. In the permanent exhibition of the Museum more than 800 exhibits, the area of the Museum is about 200 square meters. Presented in the Museum: a rich collection of cold steel and firearms and military uniforms; layouts reconstructed city Berestov and archaeological excavations in the district of the Brest fortress, historical documents and photographs; vintage postcards from Brest; antique furniture, furnishings and way of life; a treasure of ancient coins, ancient incunabula, discovered during excavations of the tiles of the XVI century and more.

The Museum organizes interesting excursions on the history of Brest for adults and students. Annual themed exhibitions on the history and archaeology of his native land, but also on the history of the great Patriotic war.
