The Templar Church partially destroyed the Church in the centre of Bristol in the UK.
The Church was founded in the mid-twelfth century by Robert of Gloucester and the knights Templar. The order was abolished in the XIV century, the property was transferred to the knights Hospitallers. After the abolition of the knights Hospitaller during the Church reforms of Henry VIII, the Church became a parish. Excavations revealed that the original Church of the knights Templar was oval and not rectangular, as it is now. The Church was also known as the Church of the Holy cross. Here was the Guild chapel of the Bristol weavers. In the middle of the century, weaving was the leading sector in Bristol.
The Church tower was started in the end of XIV century, but construction was halted because the tower began to tip. But then a bell tower was completed, because the roll stabilized.
In November 1940 during the bombing of Bristol Nazi aircraft the Church was destroyed. Survived part of the walls and leaning tower, unique lamp XV century is now at Bristol Cathedral.
After the war, the city authorities did not become neither to restore the ruined Church, nor to bear – it was decided to leave it as a monument.
