One of the most beautiful and important churches of Burgos is the Church of San Gil Abad, located on the street bearing the same name. Dedicated to Saint Giles (San Gil Abad), the Church built in the Gothic style. The massive Church building that had once been part of the ancient fortification wall, looks quite restrained and even gloomy. While the interior of the temple is a striking richness and variety of elements, designed in the Gothic style.

The Church building was erected in the 14th century. In the 15th and 16th centuries Burgos experienced a period of economic and cultural growth. At the same time the city moved many architects, sculptors and artists who worked to create the city's Cathedral. Many of them participated in the work on the decoration of the Church of San Gil Abad.

The Church has a Latin cross plan with three naves, three rectangular apses and a transept. Over the long history of the Church, it was built several magnificent chapels. It's primarily a Cappella del Corro, built in the 16th century, the chapel of the Nativity of Mary with a magnificent altar in the plateresque style, which shows 12 scenes from her life, the chapel of the Holy Christ. On the South side of the transept, the chapel of Sorrow with the image of the Mother of God, Dating from the 17th century, and also the chapel of the Magi. In the chapel of our lady of Good Morning is the magnificent altar of the end of the 15th century in the center of which depicted the virgin and child surrounded by saints Michael, Gabriel, Peter & Paul and the other apostles.

In 1931 the Church of San Gil Abad was designated as a national historical monument.
