Stone fountain Samson fun with spurting water is the main attraction of the Central square of české budějovice, which is named after the king přemysl Otakar II. He appeared not so long ago – at the beginning of the XVIII century, but the locals can't imagine their city without this song. The fountain has become a symbol of české budějovice, is present on postcards and magnets and is known to every tourist visiting the city.

The place where now stands the fountain, was previously held by the pillory. He served not only for demonstrative executions, but also was a kind of decoration of the square. After the rapid development of the city in the XVI-XVII centuries, the magistrate concerned in the supply of drinking water for local residents. To do this, and it was decided to build a large fountain, which would be considered at the same time water tank. From the fountain the moisture was due to several neighboring streets.

The design of the fountain was designed by františek Bogut from Jindrichuv-Hradec. The stone base of the fountain created Zacharias horn, and the main sculptural composition belongs to cutter Josef Dietrich is a very well known local stonecutter, the author of several urban sculptures. Samson tearing the lion's mouth, a large and imposing. The height of the statue is 17 meters, that allows to speak about the next record and call this the fountain of a local miracle. Stone bowl into which water flows, rests on the shoulders of four of the Atlanteans. A little below you can see images of gargoyles. On the stone parapet features four decorative vases.

Work on the fountain took 6 years from 1721 1727 years. Now around this historic site placed benches where you can enjoy a carefree holiday.
