Cherkasy art Museum is located in the city center on Khreschatyk street. The Museum was opened in 1992, and was dedicated to the 178-th anniversary of the birth of T. G. Shevchenko. The building, which houses the Museum, formerly belonged to the municipal Committee of the Communist party of Ukraine.

The Museum's history began long before its official opening. For twenty-five years prior to this event for the Museum purchased artworks from the best artists and craftsmen from all over the Soviet Union. A large part of the exhibition included exhibits from private collections. Conventionally, the Museum can be divided into two main groups – fine and decorative art. In addition, on the third floor four rooms are used for temporary exhibitions. Since the opening of the Museum took place more than four hundred.

Decorative art presents stunning examples of traditional Ukrainian embroidery, works Chernozemny ceramics. Here you can also see works by the honored artists of Ukraine – I. Dry, F. Gotovogo, M. Turukanova. Special attention deserves the decorative painting from Tamara Gorovoy, Irina and Sofia Gumenyuk and many other talented artists.

In the art section presents the iconography of 16th to 19th century portrait painting of the 18th – early 20th century. Works created by famous and renowned artists, portrait painters from Ukraine and from foreign countries. In addition, you can see numerous landscape paintings.
