The Church of the Nativity of the virgin is an ancient building of the town, erected in 1767, It is located on the outskirts of Chernivtsi, in Horace, on the street Troyanovsky, near the river Prut. Initially the building was worn by defensive character and was used as a fortress, as evidenced by strong stone walls, narrow window-slits that made the construction of impregnable to enemy attacks, and the combat gallery.
The Church of the Nativity of the virgin is an architectural monument in the Baroque style. Features of this style are harmoniously combine Moldovan and Ukrainian architecture is a typical example of Bukovina architecture of the 18th century, This unique structure has wooden and stone buildings, which are very successfully combined with each other. For example, stone walls, galleries and bunk wooden bell tower, situated in the South-Eastern part of the farmstead.
The dome, the walls and vaults of the Church are decorated with frescoes of the 18th century, which is of great artistic value. Thick walls and rehakova divider that separates the nave, were committed to the Church in miniature. Fortunately, during the restoration of the facades, the interior of the Church remains the same: everything breathes antiquity. The most valuable in the Church is preserved in the porch of the 18 century painting: fresco of "St. George and the snake" and "the last judgment", which are of great artistic value. Up to the present day came and bunk wooden bell tower, for which the Abbot of an Orthodox monastery Kinicki ordered a brass bell in Sadgora, cast from Turkish cannons.
In 1712 the Church housed the Orthodox monastery of the Nativity, which was visited by Catherine II and Alexander I. Until the conversion to the Church of the monastery had 14 estates and was the most influential in Bukovina.
Today the Church of the Nativity of the virgin in Chernivtsi is one of the oldest temples in the city, which is in sufficiently good condition to this day.
