Wat Buppharam is in close proximity to the centre of Chiang Mai, surrounded by an ancient wall and moat, was founded in 1497 during the reign of king Muang Kaew. The temple complex includes two viharn (common room), one ubosot (hall for the monks), one Chedi (stupa), the hall of Dharma (Buddha's teachings) and the well of Holy water.

One of the oldest structures on the territory of Wool Buppharam Chedi is built in a combination of Burmese and mon States styles more than 4 centuries ago. White Chedi with a Golden spire on all sides the light guard Sindhi (mythical lions), on all its four sides is the image of the Buddha.

Small viharn in Lanna style was only built in the XVI century, its current appearance is more modern, the building was restored in 1819. The age of the big Buddha statue on the altar of Vihara has about 300 years. Second, the larger viharn built 2 centuries ago, inside it is decorated with the incredible beauty of the frescoes depicting the history of the earliest Jataka tales, ancient Buddhist epic. Small ubosot in the temple is made in a later Lanna style, and sacred water from the well in the old days sprinkled the future rulers of the Kingdom of Lanna.

The largest building in the Wool Buppharam – storey hall of the Dharma or, otherwise, hall Ho Monthian. It was created in 1996 in a somewhat unconventional style, the hall has a cruciform shape. It protects the entrance to Makara, a mythical beast. In the hall of the Dharma is the largest Thailand Buddha statue, made of teak wood. Age figures called Phra Buddha of Narit depicting the Buddha in the attitude of Bhumisparsha is more than 400 years. In Dharma hall also houses magnificent frescoes, one of which is a map of all the temples of Chiang Mai.

Small garden in front of the temple includes the most typical Buddhist figures of Donald duck, Mickey mouse and other Disney characters.
