Magnificent historical landmark of Copenhagen and Denmark is thorvaldsens Museum. It is close to the Royal residence Christiansborg.

On behalf of king Frederik VI was allocated a plot of land specifically for the construction of the Museum, the author of this building was a young architect M. G. Benderball. Central facade of the building has five doors, the exterior walls of the buildings are decorated with beautiful figural frescoes, the Museum has a patio. The Windows in the gallery are high above the floor, lined with colorful mosaics, ceiling vaults are decorated with patterns in Pompeian style.

In the gallery Thorvaldsen collected many statues dedicated to ancient Roman deities Adonis, Hercules, psyche, and many others. The Museum displays about 20,000 exhibits, basically, it's the work of the Thorvaldsen: his works of art, executed in plaster, marble and a lot of drawings, sketches. The Museum also features for exploring personal collection of Bertel Thorvaldsen - decoration, glassware and bronze, musical instruments, clothing, snuff boxes, coins, glasses, and, of course, tools.

March 24, 1844 stopped beating heart of the great sculptor Thorvaldsen, he died a week before the opening of the Museum in his honor. The ashes of the famous Danish sculptor was moved from Copenhagen Cathedral in the courtyard of the Museum.

Today in the premises of the Thorvaldsen Museum exhibitions and cultural events for children and adults give lessons in painting and graphics.
