Regional historical Museum of the Casa Garcilaso is one of the most visited museums in Cusco. The Museum is located in the building in which he was born and lived until 20 years of Peruvian historian and writer Inca Garcilaso de La VEGA (1539-1616 yy), the author of the book "Los Comentarios Reales de los Incas", in Russian translation known as "the History of the Incas".

The basis of the Museum was based on the collection, donated by the family of Concha Iberico in 1946 the Colonial Museum. At first the Museum was located on Calle San agustín (now the Hotel Libertador). Given the importance of collections, national Institute of culture in 1967 he purchased a mansion Casa del Inca Garcilaso de La VEGA for Historical Museum.

The style of the Museum building fits the style of the small palaces or mansions of the XVI - XVII centuries. It has a fully enclosed courtyard with arcades on three wings. His columns are carved medallions with images of the characters of antiquity. Staircase leading to the second floor and the roof, is located in the Western corner of the yard. The walls of the building are decorated with frescoes of the XVI century in black and white. The porch is decorated with floral motifs and four-leaf clovers.
