Kizlyar Museum of local lore of a name of P. I. Bagration, located on Gorky street, was founded in 1960, the Museum bears the name of a local native, hero of the Patriotic war of 1812, General Pyotr Bagration, who, having received a wound in the battle of Borodino, died 23 September 2012
The institution was created by all the citizens of Kizlyar. For the first time, the exhibition Museum, located at that time on the second floor of the building on Sovetskaya street, opened to visitors in November 1961, eventually, in 1978, the local authorities decided to give the Museum another room. For this purpose, they chose the former city Council, built in 1913, four years Later, funds Kizlyar Museum of local lore of a name of P. I. Bagration was placed in fourteen exhibition halls, the total area is 700 sq. m. Since that time the institution became one of the most important scientific centres in the Northern part of the Republic of Dagestan.
Today in the local history Museum presents: the exposition of the Russian way of life of the XIX-XX centuries, art hall, the hall of Bagration, nature room, the hall of the Baku-Caspian eparchy, the hall of the Terek Cossacks and the memorial hall of the victims.
With each new year Kizlyar Museum was replenished with new interesting exhibits, including increased its library and archives. Recently in the Museum of a name of P. I. Bagration were new exhibits and displays that reflect the culture of the inhabitants of the region, as well as the creativity of young artists of the region.
