Mount Parnassus is a limestone mountain in Central Greece that towers above Delphi on North from the Gulf of Corinth. In fact, Parnassus is a vast mountain range from Poets to Corinthian sea, and Delphic Parnassus is its highest point and has two peaks of Tithorea and Liakoura. The slopes of the mountain is covered by dense forests, and on top of the snow. Parnassus offers scenic views of the bottom with olive groves and villages.

In the ancient world, mount Parnassus was considered the center of the earth, and ancient Delphi, the ruins of which are situated on the hillside, the Panhellenic center of the state. With this mountain is associated with many myths and legends. In Greek mythology, this mountain was sacred to Apollo and Karikoski nymphs.

On mount Parnassus was located the temple of Apollo with its famous Delphic Oracle. The temple was the chief centre of the worship of Apollo in ancient Greece and the Oracle was considered the most revered in the ancient world. Here is the famous castalian spring, where pilgrims would perform ablution before you visit the Oracle. The source was attributed medicinal properties, and its waters were considered a source of inspiration. Here in honour of Apollo were held and the famous Pythian games, ranks second in importance only to the Olympic games.

On mount Parnassus and the surrounding area is a national Park with an area of 3500 ha. it was Founded in 1938 and is one of the oldest and largest parks in the country with rich flora and fauna. Kefalonian fir, Alpine meadows, picturesque gorges and caves, rare species of animals and birds make this Park a unique natural reserve.

In 1976 there was opened the ski resort of Parnassos. Great trails of varying difficulty and length, good modern lifts, high capacity and close proximity to the capital (180 km) attract tourists from all over the world. To stay overnight in the resort village of Arachova or in Delphi. The season is open from December to April.
