Museum of resistance and deportation or links located in Druskininkai. The birthday of the Museum can be considered 29 December 1996. The initiator of creation of the Museum was the Druskininkai branch of the Union of political prisoners and exiles of Lithuania. Since 1998 belongs to the organization "Atmintis" ("Memory"). Gintautas Kazlauskas was once exiled, he headed the work on creation of the Museum. Museum officials are members of public organizations and work on a voluntary basis. The Museum of genocide victims in Vilnius, constantly assists Druskininkai Museum.
Museum of resistance and deportation is housed in two rooms of the cultural center of the government of the city of Druskininkai. In the Museum you can see the 3 permanent exhibitions: "Link", "Armed resistance" and "Unarmed resistance". There is also a memorial area Antanas Dambrauskas.
Exposition "Link" tells the history of numerous arrests and citations covering the period from 1940 to 1950. There are a lot of photos and exhibits from private collections of local residents. Also at the exhibition visitors will be able to see statistics on expulsions and deportations of Lithuanian people, to see a geographical map of the former Soviet Union, where are the locations of links and locations of camps.
The exhibition "Armed resistance" is devoted to the historical events occurring in place of the partisan district "Dainava" in the years 1944-1953.
And, finally, exposure of unarmed resistance tells the story of various forms of rebellion and resistance: the underground organization of Amateur performances, participation in illegal circles and organizations and others. The main theme of this section is the production and distribution of illegal literature, among which you can see the issue of "Chronicle of the Lithuanian Catholic Church" ("Lietuvos katalikų bažnyčios kronika") for the period from 1972 to 1989.
In the memorial area translator of ancient literature Antanas Dambrauskas (1911-1995) shows his personal belongings, books, including here you will be able to see his memories "Viskas praeina" ("Everything passes") and the Apostolic blessing of Pope John Paul II. Also depicted here is the solution Druskininkai city Council on awarding Antanas Dambrauskas the title of Honorary citizen of Druskininkai.
The Museum is rich in photographs, documents and things brought from camps and places links, crafts, tools, household items, relics of the days of guerrilla warfare and unarmed resistance.
The Museum collection is constantly updated since 1994. This involved the representatives of Druskininkai branch of the Union of political prisoners and exiles of Lithuania and members of the public organization "Atmintis".
Since 1997, the Museum examines the history of the partisan movement, organizes a search operation, communication and meetings of former guerrillas. By the staff of the Museum has restored and transferred to the Museum building, 2 guerrilla bunker found in the surroundings of Druskininkai. Currently the bins are equipped with accompanying information and represent the Museum branches.
In the Museum organizes lectures, presentations of books on the history of resistance and deportation, the meeting of former political prisoners and other activities. For students, the Museum conducts guided tours, lectures, lessons from history, art contests. And for young people developed tourist route, including memorials of the history of resistance: the monuments, bunkers, memorials.
